I bought my X-Fi XtremeGamer (SB0073, the current low-profile PCI model with passive cooling) for the simple reason that I use my desktop as an all-around system (everything from gaming to video), and such all-around usage is not completely carried by onboard sound (which falls down rather badly when it comes to straight audio playback *outside* of gaming, such as video playback or even audio sound from Flash or YouTube, let alone DVD playback). Seriously how many of you use your PC *only* for gaming, especially if you just have the single desktop? (Portable owners are specifically excluded.) The X-Fi has some really cool audio features too. I used to get strange sound issues with the Soundmax in some games, but I don't get that anymore with the X-Fi. ![]() I used to use the Soundmax chip on my motherboard (Asus P6T Deluxe), but I've since switched to an X-Fi Fatality Titanium Pro soundcard and the difference is pretty big.
